The Basic Fishing Setup
The following is our recommended affordable fishing setup for walleye and northern pike at our outposts. Sometimes you just want to be told what to buy so you can have a successful trip without having to put in hours and hours of research. We made this list for you. It will give you a good setup for fishing at our camps without spending tons of money on tackle. We think that for Walleye fishing the most important thing is for you to be able to feel the bottom which is why we put priority on a good fishing rod. Along the way your going to run into some large Northern Pike too. Fishing at our camps is pretty easy since the fish dont see much fishing pressure.

This is an extremely versatile walleye rod design capable of handling many techniques including, of course, jigging and rigging. In a 2 piece version for the convenience of storage in compact places and traveling. It can also land a big pike. Use the net, don’t lift your fish out of the water with your rod because this puts strain on the rod tip.

Baits:
1/4oz, 3/8oz, & 1/2oz Lead Jig Heads
Colors: Pink & Yellow, Chartreuse/Orange, Chartreuse/Lime or other bright colors. Red Hook!
Use in most situations. Drop straight down off the side of the boat until it hits bottom and then pull up a couple of inches and let fall again to bottom… do this at varied intervals (every 5 seconds, every 15 seconds, etc) till you find what works. You can also cast away from the boat and drag back toward the boat on the bottom. This will allow you to cover different depths of water if the bottom contours.
